Sods turned as Peppers Melbourne Richmond rises

Melbourne’s Amber Property Group have begun construction on its second newbuild hotel in the Victorian capital, with work now underway on what will become Peppers Melbourne Richmond.

Due to open in mid-2022, the 80-room hotel will be the third Peppers in Melbourne alongside Peppers Docklands and Shadow Play by Peppers, with the new property to play a leading role in the revitalisation of the area’s historic Bridge Road.

The move further solidifies the attention Melbourne property developers and hotel operators are paying to fringe and suburban areas of Melbourne, aiming to capitalise on shifting corporate and emerging business and industrial hubs popping up just outside the city.

The new Peppers Melbourne Richmond is on track to open in mid-2022.

Construction will see more than 350 jobs created, with a further 40 team members to be recruited to run the hotel once operational. Guest facilities at the property will include a fitness centre, restaurant and rooftop bar overlooking the nearby city skyline.

Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, said the company was excited to be growing its presence in the suburb of Richmond.

“We are proud to be developing our partnership with Amber Property Group who recently opened The Sebel Melbourne Ringwood,” he said.

“Creating jobs and investing in the future of the tourism and accommodation sector has never been more important and it is fantastic to see the sod being turned and construction underway.”

Peppers Melbourne Richmond General Manager, Edmond Power, said the hotel will be “a wonderful catalyst” for regional Victoria and interstate visitors to enjoy the city’s inner-east.

“The guestrooms and facilities will set this hotel apart from others. There is a huge sense of community pride within Richmond and we are thrilled to be part of this, we are looking forward to bringing the people of Richmond on the journey with us.”
